GPU hierarchy 2019: Ranking the graphics cards you can buy

The graphics card is the most important component of any gaming PC, but if you’re not familiar with the current lineup of models from Nvidia and AMD, it can be incredibly difficult to figure out how each graphics card stacks up. Varying features and constantly changing prices only add to the confusion.

To simplify things, we’ve created this list of graphics cards ordered from most powerful to least powerful. The rank is based on our own testing of FPS averages in popular games, as well as market research.

We’re also only looking at the speeds from ‘stock’ graphics cards—many of these GPUs have overclocked versions available from multiple companies that can squeeze out a bit more performance. The exact performance you’ll see in games also depends on what processor and RAM you’re using, and if you decide to do any manual overclocking.

Regardless, this should give you a bit more context about how the major graphics cards stack up right now, and help you make informed purchases. For simplicity’s sake, the list only contains cards you can buy right now. For example, while the GTX 1080 and 1070 are still very good graphics cards, Nvidia and other manufacturers have largely stopped manufacturing and selling them.
